Positive Reinforcement:
- ClassDojo points - students receive individual/group points for making wise choices
- Treasure Chest - at the end of each week, the team with the most Dojo points may choose a prize!
- Parents can easily monitor students' daily progress with the app
Consequences:
- ClassDojo - parents receive instant feedback of students' behavior
- I believe each situation is unique and should be dealt with accordingly
- The student and I will identify the problem and come up with a solution together
- Parents will be notified of severe and/or pervasive behavior
Classroom "Promises"
"Less is more" when it comes to rules, so I narrowed it down to these
three, which will hopefully encompass all of the specific, essential rules:
1. Be respectful
2. Do your best
3. Make wise choices

Homework Policy
H.O.M.E. Folder
Homework Categories:
1. Math – After each lesson, students will have a page (front & back) of math homework to help reinforce the concepts we’re learning in class.
2. Phonics/Spelling – Phonics will be completed at school; spelling tests will be given each Friday.
3. Theme-Related Projects – Occasionally, we will do theme-related activities to reinforce Science/Social Studies concepts.
4. Math Facts in a Flash - Students should practice math facts (addition/subtraction) at home as often as possible. Second graders are expected to master each level in 2 minutes, then 1.5 minutes, and finally in 1 minute or less.
Make-up Work:
- Second graders should spend an average of 20-30 minutes a night on daily reading time. They should read AR books at their level.
- Please ensure that your child completes homework daily, and help with any questions as needed, but refrain from doing the work yourself/just giving them the answers!
- Any unfinished classwork will be sent home as homework to be returned the following day.
H.O.M.E. Folder
- Travels back and forth from school to home and back each day.
- Use them to send homework, lunch tickets, pizza money, etc.
- Periodically, you will receive your child’s previous work in the “Super Duper Work” folder.
Please remove them upon receiving it and go over it with your child.

Make-up Work:
- Students may NOT regain points by turning in corrections if they did not do well on an assignment the first time. Please make sure you check your child's work before it gets turned in.
- When students are absent, they are able to make up their missed work. A family member may pick up the student’s work the same day; otherwise, the student may take it home once they’re back in school. Please turn make-up work in promptly. If you need makeup work for several days in a row, you must fill out a PASA form at the office in advance.
- Parents: Please contact me in advance if you know that your child will be absent!
Water & Snacks
- It is so important to stay hydrated, especially in this heat! Let's be environmentally friendly and have reusable bottles for water! :)
- Water bottles will be sent home each day for a cleaning.
- Students may bring individual snacks.
- Please send healthy brain food as opposed to sugary sweets.
- Good examples: fresh/dry fruit, veggies, granola bars, crackers, trail mix, etc...
- SCHOOL POLICY: NO SHARING SNACKS!
Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! Below are some helpful guidelines:
- If you plan on sending a special treat, please let me know in advance.
- Please make sure there are enough treats for the whole class (27 students + 1 teacher :D).
- Consider simple treats that are efficient to pass out & clean up (cookies, cupcakes, popsicles, etc...)
- Please do not bring cake that needs to be cut or ice cream that needs to be scooped.
- Only pass out party invitations in class when ALL students or all of 1 gender are invited. Thanks for being considerate :)
- The best time to bring in treats is during lunch. Please come 5 minutes early to help pass treats out!
- Students with summer birthdays will be given an "un-birthday" to celebrate! They may bring treats on that day.
- Students may NOT pass out goodie bags at school.
